It functions as a way to introduce a lot of the simple conflicts that will be required to do more complicated team building games. The premise is just moving the entire group through a hula hoop that is suspended in the air.
Demonstration / guide
Set up
Either hang the Hula Hoop, or just stand holding the hula hoop.
The game.
It is important that you teach everyone proper spotting techniques before.
Story example. The group is attempting to break into a bank at night. If they hit the sides they will set off the alarm! They can’t get caught and must get the entire group in order to execute their robbery.
Everyone must now help each other jump through, be carried through, or lifted through the Hula hoop.
As you can tell, it involves a lot of physical contact, which is why it is important to cover the rules of spotting and safety before you begin.
This is not a starter game. This is something you play with a group that already knows each other and you are trying to increase their trust in one another.
Once everyone has been lifted through the Hula Hoop they win
Debrief at the end, what worked, what went well? It will help build their trust.
Explaining the requirements
This is the only way out.
You must get your entire group through the porthole (hula hoop)
You cannot touch the side
If anyone touches the side, the full group has to start over
If anyone falls, the full group has to start over
You as a group must work together in order to life people through the porthole.
